Beneficence is a standard in nearly all medical ethics codes. It is the simple call for providers to "do good", to try to help, to attempt to make things better. However, for many women in obstetrics and gynecological care, this basic good is not received. Countless women are seen in an OB/GYN clinic for a distressing set of symptoms, express their concerns to their provider, and are given ineffective interventions or told that nothing can be done. This results in women feeling unheard, demoralized, and stuck in their suffering.
Human need
When women aren't heard in healthcare, their voices remain excluded and their suffering goes unaddressed. Women then struggle with chronic health issues that hinder their ability to work, care for their families, and live fulfilling lives.
Social change opportunity
When women are heard life transforms for individuals, families, and communities. Women have more agency to enact meaningful change in their immediate circles. This results in families that are better supported and communities where all voices are taken seriously.
